We often talk about everyone needing cyber security: from the largest governments to the smallest businesses. We include budgets for it at a national level, and we encourage people through frameworks and regulations. We urge software teams to consider cyber security early and often through every element of the products – building secure systems by design and default.
While this is noble and speaks to an equal need for cyber security, we don’t provide the pathways, tools, and support to make this a practical reality.
A small number of organizations achieve this goal. And those are often the ones with the biggest teams and the deepest pockets.
Making secure development equitable
We’re all familiar with equality – giving everyone and every organization the chance to participate. Equity, however, is the idea that everyone gets to participate and everyone is given the support they need to do so.
If you offered health services, it’s not enough to say, “The door is unlocked; come on in”. Some folks need a ramp; some need a rail; some need you to hold the door open a little longer – and some need you to meet them outside to deliver the service, as entering the building isn’t an option.
Equity is about providing those additional accommodations and supports that allow everyone to participate.
Today SafeStack launches global parity pricing
SafeStack is choosing to make our part of the cyber security world – secure development and application security – accessible, equitable, and achievable.
Today SafeStack introduces transparent parity pricing. You can subscribe to SafeStack at a price that reflects the purchasing power of your home currency.
It’s a move that will make secure development education globally affordable and equitable.
So what is parity pricing?
The most famous example of parity pricing is known as the “Big Mac Index.” This index maps the retail price of the iconic burger around the world. Each market and each country within it has a different selling price relative to the purchasing power of the local currency.
Where something might be sold for $1 in the USA, another country with lower pricing parity might buy the same item for 0.60c. This doesn’t mean that the second country is getting a considerable discount or is experiencing favoritism; it means that in that second country, 0.60c is equivalent in buying power to $1 in the USA.
SafeStack pricing has always been transparent and listed on our website, and we believe that’s part of helping teams make good buying decisions. However, without parity pricing, our price of $300, while affordable in the USA and many western countries, would be the equivalent of charging $1000 or more in other parts of the world.
This is changing today. Now, wherever you are in the world, you can buy SafeStack subscriptions at a price that reflects the purchasing power of your local currency. This price will be visible on our website, and the relevant discounts will be applied when you check out.
Hello, world!
As a founder and as CEO, I’m very proud of the work behind this change and the potential it brings to expand the reach of application security around the world.
From Rio de Janeiro to Timor-Leste to Singapore to Seattle: SafeStack is now not only a fantastic training platform, but is being offered at a price point with an equitable cost globally.
We believe that all organizations, all software, and all teams need to embrace application security, and today we make a concrete step towards making that happen. Huzzah!
